Meditation To Relax The Body And Mind

Meditation is an immensely successful method for handling stress. We all know how stress has become the silent killer in the modern age. Various meditation techniques have been developed to curb the ill effects of a stress and anxiety ridden society.

What is meditation?

Meditation is a state of the mind and body wherein you are consciously focused as well as relaxed. You seem to be present in your surroundings, aware of all the feelings and thoughts, without getting carried away with those. Meditation helps you in different ways. It helps you gain more energy. It diverts your mind from negative thoughts and builds concentration.

Few strategies for meditation

• Choose the right time: You have to choose the perfect time to meditate. You cannot successfully carry out this process with phone or the door bell ringing. You should avoid meditation just prior to or subsequent to meals. Sometimes individuals do with a 10 minutes meditation, while others spend at least an hour.

• Choose the correct place: You should meditate in a quiet and relaxing environment. Try to switch off the television, phone or any other loud appliance. Sometimes outdoors can also serve as an ideal place to meditate. An example is some quiet corner in your local park.

• Clear out every thought from your mind: This is easier said than done. However this is the most important factor in meditation. Even when we do not perform any physical activity, our minds continue to work for long. Common day to day problems crowd our mind. It is imperative to focus on meditation and disallow other thoughts.

A few meditation techniques to curb your inner turmoil

• Breathing meditation: This meditation technique can be applied any time, whether you are sitting or walking. You have to focus only on your breathing. Count your every breath till ten. Let not your mind wander away. If you are in a sitting posture, ensure your eyes are closed. Let your breathing be natural. Take a few minutes initially to understand the pattern of your breathing. Feel it across your entire being. As you start feeling comfortable you should start counting. Once your mind starts to wander, do make the beginning again. Slowly get to counting till twenty, then thirty. Breathing meditation might take days before you gain complete mastery.

• Object meditation: This process makes use of the belief that you may be able to focus more while staring at a particular object. This technique is ideal for visual thinkers and learners. Generally a candle is the object used in this form of meditation. The initial process is the same as in breathing meditation. The moment you are comfortably tuned in to your breathing pattern, open your eyes. You have to continue your breathing staring, absolutely focused on the candle or any other object you have chosen. Your goal should be not to think about the object but to concentrate on your breathing.

There are several meditation techniques that are there. You can join Yoga or meditation classes to learn the different kinds of meditation techniques. Keep in mind that being physically and mentally sound not only benefits your body and mind, but can also save you money, as healthy people pay a lot less for their health insurance. If you like yourself and your money, make sure you take care of yourself mentally and physically!
